There is hope down by Rosmead Street
There is hope!
10th December - walking around Rosmead Street area with Andy and Fiona.
Listening, looking……
I have community development eyes , so seeing through my fellow walkers eyes gave differing perspectives: the environment and building works, new homes, NHS care centre and much more. Plenty of parked cars. Few people on the streets. What goes on behind closed doors?
It is an area with no name, identity and high on the disadvantage ladder. Is there community here? It used to be a traditional community, working, going to fight in the World Wars. People are making homes looking at new fencing, front door steps and windows. Where is the soul of the community? Nearer to Preston Road, shopping facilities. Some are closed, others demonstrate multi cultural food shops, tons of hair and beauty shops. The area seems devoid of features apart from St John’s church and the park/rugby ground. Andy remarked that East Hull is newer than West Hull. It’s still developing. Small park areas where bombs fell in the Wars. St John’s stands proud as a beacon of welcome, friendship, worship. People do drop in, enjoy the warm space, bring loved, the facilities and activities. Is it the heart and soul of the area? There is hope!
