Listen with your eyes
Twas a peaceful, sunny walk along Holderness Drain from Holderness Road to Preston Road today. Friendly dog walkers and cyclists. Signs at every bridge with stories of once thriving pubs, the tramcar depot building "now lost beneath the entrance to Morrisson's supermarket."
Loved the muralled defunct substation opposite Liberty Academy. With a nod to the Green Hut that once was, just up the road. Memories of a week there cooking and creating with some v honest funny teenagers. 15 years on, wondering what they're up to now. Freedom, freedom, freedom. And love, love, love. For them and the teenagers at Liberty today.
A memory of the "Listen with your eyes" song. The one from schooldays that didn't make sense. "Listen with your eyes, and sing everything you see. I can sing a rainbow...." So listened to the faces of the people in the cafe. The staff in festive outfits. Something lighting up inside me. An assumed way of listening falling away. Feeling free to relish in colour and characters and coffee. And let some of the other senses in.
